What Is Safe Text?
Safe Text is exercising caution and restraint on the road in order to prevent distracted driving. "Distracted driving" is when you drive while taking your hands off the steering wheel, your eyes off the road, or your mind off of driving. 3Cinteractive is working to raise awareness about practicing safe text.
Millennials and Texting
The Pew Research Center found that 64 percent of Millennials (those aged 18—29) said they had either sent or received a text message while behind the wheel.
Enforcement and Safe Text Laws
Thirty states, the District of Columbia, and Guam now prohibit drivers from texting behind the wheel, according to the Governors Highway Safety Association.
Using A Common Sense Approach
Martin Cooper, who developed the first portable cellphone, recalled testifying before a Michigan state commission about the risks of using a phone while driving. "Common sense," said Mr. Cooper, a Motorola engineer, "dictated that drivers keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel."
