3C and client-partner Walgreens were named winners at the 2018 Effective Mobile Marketing Awards (EMMAs) presented by Mobile Marketing Magazine in London last night in the category of Most Effective RCS Campaign. The award recognizes the tremendous impact that RCS has made in enhancing the customer experience for Walgreens’ customers.
Launched in early 2018, the Walgreens chatbot was one of the first mobile messaging deployments in the U.S. using RCS business messaging. The Walgreens Text2Clip® RCS mobile couponing experience enables customers to access the latest coupons and offers via a dynamic chatbot solution, giving users the ability to browse offers by category or search via keyword. Based on their selections, the customer is then presented with a 10-card carousel which allows them to scroll through multiple offers and ‘clip’ those they wish to add to their account—providing Walgreens Balance Reward® members with increased savings and an easier checkout experience.
“We’re thrilled that RCS is getting the recognition it deserves as a way for leading brands like Walgreens to provide a better, more intuitive and seamless mobile experience for their customers using technology that is standard on mobile devices—without having to download a mobile app,” said Mike Fitzgibbon, president of 3C. “Our teams have been working hard to bring RCS mainstream and I’m inspired that their efforts have been awarded at this year’s event. More to come!”
“This is a relatively new technology,” said one judge on this year’s EMMAs panel, “so [it’s] good to see a major brand like Walgreens getting in early. Great use of personalisation.”
A much-anticipated improvement to the current SMS experience, Rich Communication Services (RCS) has been launched by 62 operators in 45 countries and several more are expected to launch in the coming months. With more than 167 million active monthly users worldwide already embracing this new messaging technology, RCS is quickly becoming the global messaging standard.
